Dark and surreal

Skulls, reapers, horror icons, aliens and the things that go bump in the night. Dark realism lives in the contrast: deep blacks, soft smoke and one sharp point of focus.

The Reaper

A reaper thigh piece, sat for 17 hours. Large dark realism, built up in layers of smoke and shadow.

About dark and surreal tattoos

Dark realism works because of contrast. Deep blacks, soft smoke and grey wash frame one sharp point of focus: the eye of a skull, the face of a reaper, a hand pressed against glass. Done well, it ages beautifully, because the blacks hold the composition together. [Dylan: add what draws you to dark work.]
